Annie has painted the cat
Jul. 24th, 2009 04:27 pmIt's been an interesting couple of days. Yesterday, I decided that I needed to clear some space in the garage so I "flat packed" 2 or 3 kitchen's worth of chipboard. My next door neighbour is a kitchen and bathroom fitter by trade and he has to dispose of the bits that are taken out. As we burn wood to heat the house, he brings me the bits to burn. I hadn't cut up any wood for a while so the garage was jammed with bits of kitchen unit and worksurface. I reckon I worked from 1pm until 5pm and created a truly impressive pile of Winter firewood. This morning I was stiff as a board after all the humping wood, cutting it and then stacking it tidily.
Annie had decided that we needed to get rid of the pink carpet that ran up out stairs and across the landing. Neither of us rocks the pink look so it will go green at some point (i.e. when the boss the has decided which shade of green it's going to be). With the old carpet up we had the chance to paint the stairwell - it'll be the only time it gets done whilst were in here. Annie wanted to do the painting (she says she is a better painter than me and I see no reason to challenge this attitude...) but she doesn't like ladders. So this morning I went and collected some narrow scaffolding and built a work tower in the stairwell. It was a squeeze getting it in there and my left shoulder is grumbling mightily but it's in and stable.
It's good for getting access to the high parts of the ceiling but means that getting up and down stairs now involves wiggling through a gap between the rungs of the tower. If we have a fire it will be a lot quicker to jump out of the window.
Anyway, it's up and Annie has painted the ceiling. She also managed to drip paint onto Melchett who was just trying to get downstairs. I had to clean his fur whilst pretending there was nothing amiss (he's a terrible patient).
Tomorrow, I sand off the filler and fit a (non-working) ceiling lamp, Annie paints the walls and I get to remove the tower.
