Thoughts on Armistice Day
Nov. 14th, 2010 07:10 pmHaving been up at mother's all weekend where we watched the Festival Of Rememberance, mother mentioned that my (maternal) grandmother, Mabel, had always watched it and cried every time the poppies rained down. Although, as far as I can tell, no-one from that branch of the family was actually killed during the '14 to '18 conflict, Gran knew people who did not return. Mother telling me this reminded me that we had a WW1 postcard sent by my (paternal) grandfather Charles to his wife back in Yorkshire. What I hadn't realised was how little information was allowed to be communicated from the troops to their families.
