A man is walking home alone late one foggy night when behind him he hears:

Bump... BUMP... BUMP...

Walking faster, he looks back and through the fog he makes out the image
of an upright casket banging its way down the middle of the street
toward him.

BUMP... BUMP... BUMP...

Terrified, the man begins to run toward his home, but the casket bounces ever faster
behind him

He runs up to his door, fumbles with his keys, opens the door, rushes
in, slams and locks the door behind him.

However, the casket crashes through his door, hard on his heels.

Rushing upstairs to the bathroom, the man locks himself in.  His heart
is pounding; his head is reeling; his breath is coming in sobbing gasps.

With a loud CRASH the casket breaks down the door.

The man screams and grabs for the first thing he can throw, but all he can find
is a bottle of cough syrup!. Desperate, he throws the cough syrup at the casket...

and, the coffin stops .

Whilst rooting around looking for something else I found this photograph of the Tithe Barn before it was converted. As there's a for sale notice at the front I guess that it dates from around about 1969 or 1970 as it was then that the building was sold for redevelopment. It was listed on December 1st. 1970.

I note from the photograph that the builders showed the same respect for the front wall that the road gang did.

A question for [livejournal.com profile] muuranker - I notice that on English Heritage's www.imagesofengland.org.uk site that the picture they have is dated 2003. Does ExMemSec know it they would like a higher res. sacn of this picture for their records?
