Whilst helping haberdasher, I scrounged many things, mostly made of wood, that I could chop up and burn. He had two ammunition cases that had been used for storing Bren guns during WW2, but in fact date from WW1. Before I burnt this one, I thought it might be amusing to work out what the legend said.

I read it as:

RUF/1242/45
O/C 14MU
CARLISLE
CUMB
SET 14C
WT 8.2.16

O/C means officer commanding
WT is wireless telegraphy?

Any other explanations welcome.
